The Hautes-Alpes is a renowned region for touristic outdoor, sport or cultural activities, sport in a unique and preserved middle-mountain environment.
The Serre-Ponçon lake, a few meters away from the villa, allows practicing all kind of water activities, such as sailing, fishing, water skiing, swimming, windsurfing, … A sailing school is located in the town of Savines-Le-Lac, proposing boat-rental and sailing lessons. Touristic cruises are also organized from Savines-Le-Lac
The alpine environment offers a wide range of mountains activities, adapted to all levels, from easy familial walks to top-end alpinism through beautiful day or half day hikes in the surrounding mountains. Access to Les Ecrins National Park is located at less than 30 minutes from the villa. Guided hikes with local and experimented guides can be organized from Embrun, as well as long range treks with overnight stays in high mountain refuges.
Outdoor activities & sports
The region offers sports & outdoor activities lovers multiple ways to fulfil their passion : paragliding to discover the landscapes from above, canoeing & rafting on the Durance river from Embrun (15 km away), windsurfing or kitesurfing on Serre-Ponçon lake, mountain biking, … only to mention the most popular activities.
Réallon & Les Orres ski resorts are easily accessible in all seasons, located at less than 30 minutes drive from the villa, and offer wide and renowned ski areas. Downhill or cross-country skiing, snowboard, snowshoes hiking are practiced. All the equipment can be rented on site.
Culture & gastronomy
The Hautes-Alpes region offers a remarkable architectural & cultural patrimony, among which: Embrun old town and its well-preserved Middle-Age architecture, Boscodon ancient Abbey, founded in 1142, Mont-Dauphin fortifications erected under the supervision of Vauban in 1693. Cheese and delicatessen amateurs will appreciate the local gastronomy.
A preserved nature
The Hautes-Alpes region is given an exceptional and well-preserved natural environment, rich biodiversity and Alpine/Mediterranean landscapes ranging from valleys to high mountains. The geographical position entails an average sunlight of 300 days per year.
The Serre-Ponçon lake is a 28.2 km² artificial body of water, located at an altitude of 780 m above sea level. It was created in 1961 to master the Durance and Ubaye rivers then recurrent floods. Its creation led to the flooding of several villages, among which Savine (rebuild and renamed Savines-Le-Lac) and Ubaye. The water average temperature of 22°C (72°F) in summer allows swimming and nautical activities.
Les Ecrins National Park
Les Ecrins is the fifth French National Park with respect to size. It covers a great area of the Ecrins massif, and was rewarded High Mountain European Park by the European Council. Les Ecrins National Park area covers 91800 ha, was created in 1972 and is delimited by Romanche, Guisane , Durance and Drac valleys. The park hosts about 100 peaks above 3000m and about 40 glaciers, and has 740 km of marked and maintained paths, among which the famous GR54 (Oisans round-trip) and about 30 refuges.
